Is energy just borrowed in a certain form only to be transferred into something else? Take this tree stump for example, once a beautiful tree drinking water from the earth and providing shelter for the birds. Now fallen but not discarded, a new feeding ground and perch for wild mushrooms to make their contribution to the never ending cycle.
